As the world has been growing rapidly with the fast increase in population, economic competition has intensified. This is also the case with fisheries industry. More and more people are using fishery resources until the use of nature does not balance with its production and fish stocks and other fishery resources are under immense pressure. Under the circumstances, building awareness and capacity among the younger generation and future leaders in the areas of sustainable fisheries resources management becomes very critical and necessary.
The youth of today are going to be the manpower of the future. University students, who will soon finish their studies in the very near future, are especially important since they have some influence in shaping the future of the country and its people.
The Training Department of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC/TD) organizes a short term training courses for university students. About 46 university students from all over Thailand attend in these training courses. The training courses focus mainly on raising of the awareness and understanding of the young generation on the friendly use and conservation for the sustainable fishery resources as well as on the way of life of people working in fisheries and in fishing communities. At the end of the course, the students will be requested to present the skills and knowledge that they have learned from the training course, and sharing their ideas about the friendly use and conservation for the sustainable fishery Resources.
