Training on Gender Mainstreaming in Fisheries Sector

The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) in collaboration with and Marine Fishery Resources Development and Management Department (MFRDMD) organized “The Training on Gender Mainstreaming in Fisheries Sector from 25 to 27 October 2022, at MFRDMD office, Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. The training aimed to promote an understanding of gender and relevant concepts through introducing tools of gender mainstreaming tools for fisheries management.  The training focused on concepts, Legal and international instruments at global and national levels of gender mainstreaming, gender mainstreaming tools, and gender integration in fisheries. There were 19 participants (10 males and 9 females). In the end, the training came up with strengthening of knowledge and sharing the experiences on gender in fisheries.

Smart Infrastructure for the Mekong Closeout Workshop

The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) in collaboration with U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) and USAID organized “Smart Infrastructure for the Mekong Closeout Workshop” on 18 October 2022 at SEAFDEC/TD. The main aim of the workshop is to present and discuss the results of the project “Implementing the Lower Mekong Fish Passage Initiative in Cambodia, Thailand, and Viet Nam” There were 49 participants from U.S. Government, SEAFDEC, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, Viet Nam and other organizations participating in the workshop. Moreover, a demonstration model of fishway was presented in the workshop.

SEAFDEC/TD Welcome visitors from FRA, Japan

On 13 September 2022, the SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) welcomed Dr. Ichiro Nakayama, President of Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency (FRA), and his colleague (3 persons). The introduction of SEAFDEC’s Department through roles and implementation activities in the region was presented. Moreover, the visitor’s team observed SEAFDEC/TD facilities such as the fishing workshop, marine engineering workshop, and M.V. SEAFDEC.

The Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency (FRA), a national research and development agency, has been conducting activities in order to contribute to the stable supply of fishery products and the sound development of the fisheries industry. These are based on the basic principle of promoting research and development and human resource development in the fisheries field and returning the results to society by maximizing their achievements.

Regional Training Course on Container Inspection

The SEAFDEC Training Course (SEAFDEC/TD) organized “The Regional Training Course on Port State Measures Inspection in Focus of Shipping Container for Fish and Fisheries Product” in collaboration with partners, namely the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and USAID from 13 to 15 September 2022, at SEAFDEC/TD, Samut Prakan, Thailand. There were 14 participants from the ASEAN Member States who have been engaged in the implementation of port control and inspection of fish and fisheries product importation via sea in container vessels, land, and air transportation attending this training. The Training aims to build up the understanding and capacity of the participants on inspection of fish and fisheries product importation via sea in container vessels, land and air transportation, and enhance the knowledge, skills, and experience of the participants on inspection of fish and fisheries product importation. The training focused on lectures and practice on how to inspect containers. In the end, the participants are expected to Increase their knowledge, skills, and experience in inspection of fish and fisheries product importation via sea in container vessels, land, and air transportation.

Regional Training Course on Fisheries Management Tools

The SEAFDEC Training Course (SEAFDEC/TD) organized “The Regional Training Course on Fisheries Management Tools for Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM)” from 12 to 17 September 2022, at SEAFDEC/TD, Samut Prakan, Thailand. There were eight participants who are EAFM trainers from the ASEAN Member States attending this training. The training aims to provide the participants with knowledge and skills through identifying the appropriate management tools that address common EAFM issues in their countries.  In the end, the participants were expected to enhance their awareness of familiarity with the EAFM management tools and increase their effectiveness to select the management tools for implementation of the EAFM in their works.
