INAUGURATION OF DEMONSTRATION BOAT

Inauguration of demonstration boat “M.V.Plalung1” was organized on 28 February 2018 at SEAFDEC Training Department. The ceremony was opened by the Director of Department of Fisheries, Thailand and the representatives from Nestle and Thai Union Group PCL. The Demonstration Boat Project was collaborated by the Department of Fisheries (DOF), the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), Thai Union Group, and Nestle. The project aims to raise awareness to the overall best fishing practice ensuring the safety of crew, health, work and their living conditions are being provided in an acceptable manner. “M.V.Plalung1” is a training vessel of the SEAFDEC Training Department, renovated into a demonstration boat, built and equipped with the necessary components to facilitate the need of crews on board. Provided with a proper kitchen area, mess room where everyone can sit down and eat or relax, enclosed rooms for toilets and shower along with a decent sleeping area. Best fishing practices is another objective to this project. The installation of net drum to the rear of this boat is to minimize the amount of labor, operating cost and the speed in cast and retrieve the net. It is to display the efficiency in fishing. The four partners in this project are aware of how significant the fisheries industry is to the country. The hard labor behind this need to be well recognized and treated in the acceptable standards. Improvement in the fishing technologies coupled with a welfare to the crew members will sustain the livelihood to this fisheries industry.
