The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) organized the Regional Training Course on Fish Handling Technique Applicable to Various Fishing Operations in Southeast Asia from 19 to 23 November 2018 at SEAFDEC/TD, Samut Prakan, Thailand.There were ten (10) fisheries officers from SEAFDEC Member Countries, namely: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam attended in this training. The Training course aims to transfer appropriate hygienic environmental/user friendly fish handling tools and simple techniques applied to maintain quality of catch, exchange views/details on practical skills and concepts related to reduction of post-harvest losses for fisheries in the region, including fish handling technique, ice storage, preservation techniques, transportation of fishery products, and promote food safety and minimize post-harvest losses in catching, storing and transportation process of fish. After this training course, the participants were able to enhance knowledge and practical skills on the reduction of post-harvest losses which will help reinforce extension and promotion of activities in their respective countries and improve awareness of hygiene and good practice of fish handling on-board the Southeast Asian fishing fleet.
