The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) organized the “On-site Training on the Implement of Fishery Machineries and Improvement of Fish Handling On-board Purse Seine Vessels” on 6 March 2019 at Pattani Province located in the Southern part of Thailand. There were 60 participants who are skippers, master fishermen, fishing vessel owners and important key stakeholders participated in the training. The aims of the training were to enhance awareness of energy efficiency, reduce labor use in fishing, including being aware of safety at the sea; research and development how to work and preserve the freshness of aquatic products, including efficient loading and unloading; collect information disseminated and progress about energy efficiency, labor reduction and safety at sea as well as establishing a network of stakeholders to exchange information on energy saving , reduce labor, optimize the freshness of aquatic animals, and safety at the workplace and at sea.
After this training, the participants are expected to improve good fish handling practice and hygiene onboard for direct human consumption and to serve at a premium level, technical information and knowledge related to operation and handle of the fishery machinery onboard has disseminated to the fleet, reduce operation cost e.g. labor cost, post-harvest losses and trash during storage, and transportation on-board till unloading at the landing site, and improve good fishing operation and practices at sea.
