TRAINING ON AGE DETERMINATION BY USING VERTEBRA FOR SHARKS AND RAYS

The Training course on Age Determination by Using Vertebra for Sharks and Rays was organized by the SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) from 29 April to 1 May 2019 at TD office, Samut Prakan Province, Thailand. The training aims to enhance human resource development on age determination for formulating growth rates of sharks and rays to stock assessment researchers of SEAFDEC Member Countries (MCs) through attaining the more reliable Yield per Recruit (YPR) model and strengthen a network of stock assessment scientist in the region. Totally, there were 35 participants from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam attended in this training. At the end of training course, the participants were expected to understand on age determination by annual ring technique through increasing the number of growth rate information of sharks and rays by species in their countries.
