The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) had organized “The Sixty-second Short-term Training Course of University Students on Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM)” from 4 to 14 June 2019 at Training Department, aims to build up and give awareness on responsible fishing for sustainable fisheries to young generation. Twenty-six (26) students (9 males and 17 females) from five (5) universities in Thailand and a university in Japan such as Kasetsart University, Burapha University (Bangsan Campus and Chantaburi Campus), Prince of Songkla University, Chulalongkorn University, and Hokkaido University participated in this training course. The course specifically designed for students to gain knowledge, practice and experience on the concept and principle of EAFM, fishery management in Thailand and Japan, basic of fishery oceanographic survey, fishing gear, etc. outside the Universities. Moreover, they also practice on rope and knotting, simple fishing gear construction through oceanographic survey and responsible fishing operation at sea, fishery community survey in Phetchaburi Province. All of these activities made them to be empowering and developing including establishment of network in the future.
