The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) in collaboration with Department of Fisheries (DOF), Myanmar which supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) organized the Data Validation Workshop on Gender Dimension in the Value Chain of Small-scale Inland Fisheries Kyauktan, Yangon Region, Myanmar on 29 June 2021. The Data Validation workshop was organized to build awareness on gender concept to fishing community and report the result from data collection on roles of women and men in Small-scale Inland Fisheries at Kyauktan which was conducted from 24 to 28 May 2021 to local stakeholder. The participants of the workshop are composed of 54 people (16 women and 38 men). The comment and recommendation from the workshop will be used to complete the report on Gender Dimension in the Value Chain of Small-scale Fisheries and Aquaculture in Southeast Asia.
Site Training for Enumerator on Gender in Philippines
The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) in collaboration with Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) of Philippines under supported by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) organized “The Site Training for Enumerator on Gender Concept, Analysis and Development of a Data Collection Protocol” from 23 to 25 June 2021 at Infanta, Quezon, Philippines. The training was organized as face to face at Infanta, Quezon, Philippine and online attending from SEAFDEC staff. There were 17 participants (12 females and 5 males). The training aimed to introduce the gender in development concept and process of gender analysis through developed of the questionnaire form for data collecting. Moreover, the training provides an opportunity to participant to conduct the presurvey at the project site for testing the questionnaire form that was developed by participants. The output of questionnaire development will be proceeded to the next activities on data collection for the project on Gender Dimension in the Value Chain of Small-scale Marine Fisheries in Infanta, Quezon, Philippines.
Site Training for Enumerator on Gender in Myanmar
The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries (DOF) of Myanmar under supported by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) conducted the “Site Training for Enumerator on Gender Concept and Analysis and Development of a Data Collection Protocol” from 18 to 20 May 2021 in Myanmar with online supervising by SEAFDEC/TD resource person. There were 13 fishery officers (10 females and 3 males) participated in this Training. The training was separated to two session. The lecture session was organized in Nay Pyi Taw which introduced the gender concept and gender analysis in fisheries and aquaculture through plan for data collecting on gender dimension in the value chain of inland fisheries for Kyauktan, Yangon Region, Myanmar as implementation site. Moreover, the questionnaire on gender analysis was also developed for practice session at implementation site in Yangon for the last day of this Training.
Data Collection on Gender Dimension of Small-scale Inland Fisheries in Myanmar
The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries (DOF), Myanmar conducted The Data Collecting on Gender Dimension in the Value Chain of Small-scale Inland Fisheries in Kyauktan, Yangon Region, Myanmar from 24 to 28 May 2021. This activity was supported by The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The data collection aims to collect the raw data for analysis of the roles of women and men in inland fisheries in Kyauktan, Yangon Region, Myanmar. The enumerators of the data collection are composed of National Focal Point of Myanmar and three women staff from DOF who have been trained on gender concept and gender analysis. There were 40 respondents (12 females and 28 males) were interviewed by semi-structure questionnaire. The results of the survey will be a part of the report on the study on Gender Dimension in the Value Chain of Small-scale Fisheries and Aquaculture in Southeast Asian.
Online Regional Training on Fish Handling Techniques on Fishing Vessels
The Online Regional Training Course of Fish Handling Techniques Onboard Fishing Vessels was organized by the SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) from 12 to 13 May 2021 via zoom platform. There were 11 participants (8 males and 3 females) from ASEAN Member States (AMSs) who have relevant work experiences on fish handling and capable to transfer the knowledge gains from the training program and ways forward for the improvement of fish handling in the respective area attended in the online training. Within this online training, the participants gained and increased knowledge from lecture, online demonstration, and discussion which aims to build up their capacity and experiences in these mentioned subjects. After the completion of the training program, the participants expected to enhance technical knowledge and practical skills on the reduction of post-harvest losses through improve awareness of hygiene and good practices of fish handling on-board to the Southeast Asian fishing Fleet.
