TD JOINS THE CELEBRATION OF NATIONAL CHILDREN’S DAY

The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) joined Thailand at its 2019 celebration of the National Children’s Day on 12 January at the Prachunlajomklao Navy Dockyard at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River. TD put on displayed information and game under the theme of fishery resources conservation. Several groups of children, guided by their chaperons were attracted to the TD activities.

The National Children’s Day in Thailand is traditionally organized on the second Saturday of the year. It largely receives a widespread attention to the public, mostly government organizations, especially the Prime Minister, and military that staged their impressive shows for the benefits of children as a contribution to the future of the nation.

THE REGIONAL TECHNICAL MEETING ON COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH SURVEY IN THE GULF OF THAILAND

The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) organized “The Regional Technical Meeting on the Evaluation of the Collaborative Research Survey on Marine Fisheries Resources and Marine Environment in the Gulf of Thailand” from 8 to 9 of January 2019, at TD office, Samut Prakan, Thailand. There were 50 participants who are core researchers and researchers of the Collaborative Project or representatives from the concerned government authorities and the academic institutions from Thailand, Cambodia, and Viet Nam attended in this Meeting. The Meeting aims to report and summarize the findings as a result of the survey on the Collaborative Research Survey on Marine Fisheries Resources and Marine Environment in the Gulf of Thailand, which successfully carried out by M.V.SEAFDEC 2 during 17 August to 18 October 2018.

Furthermore, this meeting would provide a platform for setting-up a timeframe and to follow-up actions for samples and data analysis and further preparation for the publication and presentation in the future and to discuss on other matters regarding the information and data sharing schemes and the HRD program to support the Member Countries

The Regional Meeting on Regional Fishing Vessel Record (RFVR)

The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) organized “The Regional Meeting on the Regional Fishing Vessel Record (RFVR) for 24 meters in length and over as a Management Tool toward Combating IUU Fishing in ASEAN” from 12 to 13 December 2018 at Training Department, Samut Prakan province, Thailand. There were 30 delegates from SEAFDEC Member Countries and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) participated in this Meeting. Furthermore, this meeting emphasized on the management and updating of RFVR Database for 24 meters in length and over, sharing information on fishing vessels in AMS, and initiative activities of the RFVR Database less than 24 meters which appropriate range of vessel length to reduce IUU fishing in the Region. After the meeting, the expected outputs were the following: the situation from AMS to reduce IUU fishing through update number of fishing vessels by size (categories) and by type of fishing, way forward for AMS and SEAFDEC to prevent, deter and eliminate IUU fishing through utilization of RFVR, and suitability of length for fishing vessel less than 24 meters for the development of RFVR Database in next step. Finally, the RFVR is a practical tool for related authorities of ASEAN Member States (AMSs) in checking and taking corrective actions against inappropriate behavior of its fishing vessels, thereby supporting elimination of IUU fishing in the Southeast Asian Region.

TD ORGANIZES FISHERMEN RUN 2018

The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) organized “SEAFDEC Mini-marathon: Fishermen Run 2018” on 16 December 2018 at TD office, Samut Prakan, Thailand which co-supported by many partners. There were a total of 1,141 participants joined this event. This activity aims to enhance and strengthen the health of staff and public through promoting SEAFDEC visibility. Moreover, the income of this event will be donated to six (6) schools around TD as scholarship.

DEPUTY MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND COOPERATIVES VISITS TD

On 22 November 2018, the SEAFDEC Secretary-General and Chief of Training Department (TD), Dr. Kom Silapajarn gave warm welcomed to Mr. Luck Wajananawat, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives for his official visit to the SEAFDEC Training Department (TD). According to this, Dr. Kom presented the role and activities of SEAFDEC in the region such as fisheries resources and marine environment survey by M.V.SEAFDEC2, promotion on Indian Mackerel management in the Gulf of Thailand, Thai modern fishing boat, implementing on fish passage in Thailand and so on. Moreover, the honorable guest visited M.V. SEAFDEC, the research vessel of SEAFDEC and R.V. Chulabhorn, the research vessel of the Department of Fisheries, Thailand.
