There were forty-four students and one (1) lecturer from Faculty of Fisheries, Kasetsart University visited the SEAFDEC Training Department (TD), Samut Prakan province on 3 November 2018. The aimed of visiting TD were to increase knowledge on Fishing Gear and Fisheries Technology in Southeast Asia and improve their experience on marine fisheries outside the classroom, that have been lectured by the SEAFDEC expert about the Fishing Gear and Fisheries Technology in Southeast Asian Region. Moreover, they had a chance visiting TD facilities such as the fishing workshop and M.V. SEAFDEC. After the visit, the students can adapt and apply the knowledge in the future.
SEAFDEC/TD SIGNS MOU WITH SOUTHERN VOCATIONAL INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURE
A 5-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) and Southern Vocational Institute of Agriculture was signed on 25 October 2018 at the premises of TD office in Samut Prakan, Thailand. This MoU covers the program areas of: 1) capacity building and exchange of staff/student, 2) joint development of collaborative research projects, 3) joint development and exchange on information network, 4) collaboration and cooperation between relevant agencies, and 5) enhancement and development of fisheries technologies.
The Capacity building on Project Cycle Management for SEAFDEC Staff
The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) organized the Training Course on Project Cycle Management (PCM) from 26 to 27 September 2018 at Training Department, Samut Prakan, Thailand. There were twenty-three (23) participants from SEAFDEC Secretariat and Training Department as well as the members of SEAFDEC Regional Fishery Policy Network (RFPN) participated in this training course. The participants were imparted knowledge on understanding and refreshing the PCM concepts and fundamentals by using the PCM-Logframe in the practical sessions during the course. After the training course, the participants were able to use the PCM-Logframe in their current and future work, particularly for the formulation and development of future projects.
SEAFDEC Participates in “The 3rd World Small-scale Fisheries Congress”
The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) organized the exhibition to promote the implementation of TD activities on small-scale fisheries in ASEAN through strengthening of visibility and image, and distribute the SEAFDEC technical document and magazine in “The Third World Small-scale Fisheries Congress (WSFC)” which was organized in Chiang Mai, Thailand from 22 to 26 October 2018 with the theme of “Transdisciplinarity and Transformation for the future of small-scale fisheries.” The congress composes of 30 thought-provoking sessions focusing on various aspects of small-scale fisheries. There were 350 delegates from more than 55 countries who have shared knowledge, lessons and experiences on small-scale fisheries through oral and poster presentations, interactive sessions, and panel discussion. The overall goal of the Congress is to facilitate opportunities for researchers, students, young professionals, practitioners, fishers and fishers’ organizations, environmental groups, and policymakers to share information about all aspects of small-scale fisheries and to formulate action plans and capacity development programs to support the implementation of the SSF Guidelines. In this regards, SEAFDEC/TD also shared the lessons on Co-management and gender issue to the Congress.
TWO DAYS TRAINING ON CAPACITY BUILDING IN STOCK ASSESSMENT
The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) organized the Training Course on Introduction of Simple Stock Assessment Methods in Inland Fisheries from 19 to 20 September 2018 at Training Department, Samut Prakan, Thailand. There were forty-eight (48) participants from SEAFDEC Member Countries as well as SEAFDEC Training Department and Secretariat participated in this training course. The training course emphasized to strengthen capacity of SEAFDEC researchers on some simple stock assessment methods, which might be feasible under data-limited situation in Inland Fisheries, in order to conduct the project activity related to assess the fishery resources. After the training course, the participants could conduct the project activity concerning on stock assessment, increasing the number of stock assessment study and recommendation for further activities on supporting stock assessment study in their respective country.
