TD CONDUCTS THE MONITORING AND FACILITATION OF THE CBRM/CO-MANAGEMENT AT THE PILOT SITE IN NAM XOUANG RESERVOIR, LAO PDR

SEAFDEC Training Department conducted the monitoring and facilitation of the CBRM/Co-management at the pilot site in Nam Xouang Reservoir, Lao PDR during 29 January to 3 February 2018. The activities included are as follows: Training for local government staff to increase knowledge on fisheries management, conduct the workshop for planning unification of fisheries rules and regulations among two (2) districts (Phone Hong and Naxaythong Districts) to finalize the rules and regulations in Nam Xouang Reservoir, discussed and shared the experiences on CBRM/Co-management project with the researchers from SEAFDEC/IFRDMD, and lastly to introduce the project to intern students from the University of Tokyo, Japan.

SEAFDEC ENHANCE THE CAPACITY ON FISH HANDLING AND POST-HARVEST LOSSES IN VIET NAM

SEAFDEC Training Department conducted the On-site Training Course on Proper Fish Handling Techniques Applicable to Local Fishing Vessels in Viet Nam during 23 to 25 January 2018. There are 34 fisheries officers participated on the training. This training course enhanced the knowledge and practical skills on the reduction of post-harvest losses considering the importance of appropriate fish handling practice and hygiene onboard, technical information and knowledge related in preserving fish for direct human consumption and to serve at a premium level as well as to reduce post-harvest losses and trash fish from unloading, storage, and transportation onboard till unloading at landing site.

SURVEY ON CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN OF FADs IN ANDAMAN SEA

The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) has conducted the survey to update the construction and design of Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) in order to seek the significant factors of FADs construction and design that is different between local and fishing ground. That would be lesson learnt to promote FADs in other SEAFDEC Member Countries. The survey on FADs was conducted for small-scale fisheries along the coast of Andaman Sea which covers six provinces, namely; Ranong, Phungnga, Phuket, Trang, and Satun Provinces from 19 to 31 January 2018. The surveys came up with 1) guidance to introduce design and factors on the FADs installation and appropriate management of the effective FADs (Types/factors, Designs, Construction, Management), 2) mapping of significant fishing grounds and habitats on FADs installation along the coast of Andaman Sea, and 3) reference, knowledge, skills and experiences to support capacity building on FADs promotion in Southeast Asia.

THE SURVEY ON FISHERIES, FISH MARKET AND GENDER IN MYANMAR

THE SURVEY ON FISHERIES, FISH MARKET AND GENDER IN MYANMARThe SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) in collaboration with Department of Fisheries, Myanmar conducted the data collection survey on social profile, livelihood opportunities and market channels by integrated gender dimension in Pu Lone Tone Tone village, Kawthaung, Myanmar from 19 to 26 January 2018. The main aims of this survey are to review the fish distribution of small-scale fisheries in Pa Lone Tone Tone village through fish market in Ranong province, Thailand and as well as to integrate gender dimension. The survey methodologies used are individual interview by questionnaire, Key Informant Interview (KII), questionnaire and Focus Group Discussion (FGD).

TD CONSULTS AND VISIT INDONESIA FOR THE STUDY ON SKIPJACK GROWTH ANALYSIS BASED ON THE EXAMINATION OF INTERVALS BETWEEN THE DAILY RINGS IN THE OTOLITH SAMPLES COLLECTED IN SSSs

Training Department Conducted the Consultation and Site Visit for the Study on Skipjack Growth Analysis based on the Examination of Intervals between the Daily Rings in the Otolith Samples collected at Sulu-Sulawesi Seas (SSSs) in Indonesia during 16 to 17 January 2018. This consultation and site(s) visit aimed to discuss more on the activity plan for the Study on Skipjack Growth Analysis based on the Examination of Intervals between the Daily Rings in the Otolith Samples Collected in SSSs in the year 2018 to 2019.
