TD PROMOTE AND IMPLEMENT ON FISHERY MANAGEMENT APPROACH IN CAMBODIA

The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) in collaboration with Fisheries Administration (FiA) Cambodia convened a meeting on “Improvement Conservation Zone and Promote Eco-tourism” in Chong Khneas Commune, Siem Reap last 15 to 20 May 2017. This area is the selected site to promote and implement “Co-management and Community-based Fisheries Management” in Cambodia. In parallel, the training on fiber glass boat construction was introduced and organized to twenty (20) participants from Chong Khneas Commune that aims to provide knowledge on fiber glass boat construction and build it for “Monitoring in Narrow Water Conservation Zone” through “Support Eco-tourism Activity”.

YOUTH FROM INDONESIA PAID A VISIT SEAFDEC/TD

The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) warm welcomed to 43 Indonesian youths from Youth Center to Act for Nation (YOUCAN) on 11 May 2017. The introduction of SEAFDEC and TD activities was presented through fishery management scheme for fisheries resources sustainable in the region. Moreover, the youth also visited TD facilities such as fishing workshop, marine engineering workshop and M.V.SEAFDEC.

Youth Center to Act for Nation (YOUCAN) is a non-government organization of youth based in Indonesia founded primarily concerned on youth empowerment and aims to promote awareness among youngsters the importance of their participation in the progress of every nation on environment.

SEMINAR ON COASTAL AREA CAPABILITY ENHANCEMENT IN SOUTHEAST ASIA

The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) in collaboration with the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature of Japan (RIHN), Kasetsart University, and Department of Fisheries of Thailand organized the International RIHN Final Seminar on Coastal Area Capability Enhancement in Southeast Asia on 15 and 17 March 2017 at Faculty of Fishery, Kasatsart University and Rayong Province respectively. The seminar aims to present the results of project implementation from 2012-2016 through benefits for fisherman and stakeholder in project area. There are 80 participants from RIHN, SEAFDEC, Kasetsart University, Department of Fisheries, fisherman, and stakeholder attended in the seminar.

The coastal capability enhancement in Southeast Asia project is a cooperative research activities between the research institute for humanity and nature (RIHN), some Japanese Universities, the SEAFDEC Training Department (TD), the Eastern Fisheries Research and Development Center (EMDEC) of Department of Thailand, Faculty of Fishery of Kasetsart University, The University of Philippines Visayas, Aklan State University and other related institutions/organizations. In this project “holistic approach” was adopted to give a full understanding how people utilize the coastal resources, for the purpose to establish the rational and practical measures both for social and ecological sustainability.

WORKING GROUPS MEETING ON TUNA RESEARCH IN SULU AND SULAWESI SEAS

The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) in collaboration with Secretariat (SEC) organized the Working Groups Meeting to Follow-up Activities on Joint Program on Tuna Research in Sulu and Sulawesi Seas from 30 to 31 March 2017 at Bangkok, Thailand. There are twenty three participants from Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, SEAFDEC, and Japanese resource person attended in the Meeting. The Meeting came up with updating the progress of the tuna research in Sulu and Sulawesi Seas which follows topics of stock assessments, spawning ground, genetic and so on through solution on the difficulties of data analysis and planning of joint program on tuna research in these areas during 2017-2019.

EAFM TRAINING FOR TRAT PROVINCIAL FISHERIES COMMITTEE

The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) in collaboration with REBYC-II CTI Project has been organizing “Essential Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) Training Course” from 30 January - 2 February 2017 at Trat Province. Twenty five trainees who are Trat provincial fisheries committee and stakeholder participated. The training course provides the concept and principle of EAFM through practices to reduce user group conflicts, work cooperatives with stakeholder, and better resolve fisheries issues and challenges. The training will come up with draft of EAFM plans developed for Trat fisheries including trawl to support fisheries management plan of Department of Fisheries in the pilot site of REBYC-II CTI project in Trat province.
