The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) in collaboration with the Department of Livestock and Fisheries (DLF) of Lao PDR conducted “The Site Training for Enumerator on Gender Concept and Analysis and Development of a Data Collection Protocol” from 15 to 17 December 2020 at Bolikhamxay Province, Lao PDR. The training aimed to introduce the gender concept and gender in fisheries and aquaculture to DLF officers and develop tools through plan of data collecting on Gender Dimension in the Value Chain of Small-scale Fisheries and Aquaculture in Southeast Asia for inland aquaculture at Bolikhamxay Province, Lao PDR. There were 16 participants from SEAFDEC/TD and DLF which is composed of eight (8) women and eight (8) men attended in this Training. Three days of training consisted of: 1) introducing gender concept and analysis, 2) Formulation of the questionnaire to conduct gender analysis in small-scale inland aquaculture, and 3) To practice on data collecting in the project site. The training proceeds through actively participation and sharing information from DLF and online supervising from SEAFDEC/TD. This training was organized under the project of “Gender Dimension in the Value Chain of Small-scale Fisheries and Aquaculture in Southeast Asia” which sponsored by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD in coordination with the Department of Fisheries, Thailand conducted preliminary survey on gender integration in fisheries in Ban Subsomboon, Buri Ram province, Thailand from 4 to 6 December 2020. This survey aims to promote gender in fisheries which support gender equality in all society. The discussion consisted of 17 persons who are local key persons from local, DOF officers and SEAFDEC/TD staff (13 females and 4 males). The preliminary survey obtained the basic information of Aquatic Animal Food Bank of Subsomboon group. As observation from survey found that there were strong group of women in the community through integrated gender in all society including fishery. This survey is an implementation activity under the project of “The Small-scale Fisheries Management for Better Livelihood and Fisheries Resources”.
The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) welcomed three representative fishermen from Ranong Fisheries Association who are trawler from Ranong Province, Thailand on 2 December 2020. The aims of this visit are increase knowledges, experiences through discussion on trawl operation technique as their capacity building. In this regard, SEAFDEC/TD introduced the missions and roles of organization through materials and equipment technologies on trawl operation to save energy and fuel when its operation included fish handling technology on board. The visitors also observed demonstration of how to use the test tank for testing on relevant of water current rate with trawl operation. 
The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) organized the Workshop on Development of the EAFM plan for Ranong Province learning site from 25 to 26 November 2020 in Ranong Provice, Thailand. The workshop was participated by 16 key stakeholders (male: 9, female: 7) from Ranong Provincial fisheries office, District fisheries office, Patrol Unit, District Agriculture office, Community Development office, Head of village, Suksamran District office, Mangrove reservation center, Andaman Coastal Research Station, Kumpuan Municipality Administration and Ban Hai Sai Khao Community members. The discussion among key stakeholder was conducted to define the specific fisheries management area, identify key stakeholders and problem analysis as well as further develop the EAFM plan for Ban Hat Sai Khao community.
The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) in cooperation with the National Disaster Warning Center (NDWC) under the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Ministry of Interior (DDPM) deployed and replaced a new unit of the Tsunami Warning System as the SAIC Tsunami Buoy (STB) in the Indian Ocean during 16-25 November 2020 and the Easy-to-Deploy (ETS) in the Andaman Sea during 27-29 November 2020. In this occasion, the official event of this mission was opened by a representative from DDPM on 16 November 2020 at Phuket Deep Sea Port, Phuket Province, Thailand before M.V. SEAFDEC conduct her mission.
