YOUTH FROM INDONESIA INCREASE THEIR EXPERIENCE AT TDThe SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) gave warm welcomed to 95 youths from the Youth Center to Act for Nation on 11 October 2017. The aimed of visiting TD are to develop the capacity building of Indonesian youth. TD staff introduced roles and activities which conducted in the region through giving lecture on “Fisheries Development Strategy in Thailand in Order to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals” to Indonesian youth. In this regard, the students had chanced visiting TD facilities such as fishing and marine engineering workshop, library and M.V.SEAFDEC 2.

FISHING VESSEL OPERATIONS TRAINING COURSE

FISHING VESSEL OPERATIONS TRAINING COURSETraining Department in collaboration with the Vocational Education Commission of Thailand organized a four-month Training Course on Fishing Vessel Operations from 10 October 2017 to 15 February 2018. Ten (10) students from Tinsulanonda Fisheries College, Songkhla Province attended the training course which aimed to provide skills to students and share with them the relevant experiences and skills which they can use for their work in the future. The training course consisted of six subjects, namely: ship construction and stability, marine communication, laws and regulations of navigation, navigation technology practices, marine machinery technology and practices, and fishing gear technology and practices. Moreover, as part of the practical session, the students also had opportunity to conduct hands-on practice onboard the M.V. SEAFDEC and the M.V. Plalung, and had a study visit to various shipping facilities relevant to the training subjects to enhance their experience which is necessary for the future career.

STUDENTS FROM KASETSART UNIVERSITY PAID A VISIT TO TD FACILITIESThe SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) gave warm welcomed to 88 students and 2 lecturers from Faculty of Fisheries, Kasetsart University (Bang khen and Kamphheang Saen Campus) on 7 October 2017. The aimed of visiting TD are to increased knowledge and experienced of students outside the study room. TD roles and activities which conducted in the region through the lecture on “the fisheries technology in the ASEAN” were introduced and imparted to all students. Moreover, the students had a chance visiting TD facilities such as fishing workshop, library and M.V.SEAFDEC 2.

CAPACITY BUILDING ON SKIPJACK OTOLITH COLLECTION

The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) in collaboration with SEAFDEC Secretariat, and National Research Institute of Far Seas Fisheries (NRIFSF), Fisheries Research Agency of Japan organized “The Training Workshop on the Standard Methodology for Skipjack Otolith Collection” from 5 to 6 October 2017 in Training Department, Samut Pakan, Thailand. There are nine (9) researchers from Indonesia and TD participated in this training. The lecturers from NRIFSF were invited to enhance capacity on the standard methodology and technique to collect otolith from the skipjack samples and also discussed on the framework for the study on skipjack growth analysis based on the examination of intervals between the daily rings in the otolith samples collected. This Training Workshop is an activity under joint program on tuna research in Sulu and Sulawesi Seas.

TD CONDUCT ACTIVITIES TO PROMOTE FISHERY MANAGEMENT IN LAO PDR

The promotion on Community-based resources management/ co-management in Banmai Namprakan Village, Hinboon District, Khammouane Province as pilot site in Lao PDR has been conducted since 2017 by SEAFDEC Training Department (TD).  To follow this activity, the monitoring of establishment for Fisheries Management Committee (FMC) and survey on fish market were conducted from 2 to 6 October 2017. In addition, the meeting on declaration and announcement for fisheries conservation area through rule and regulation in the pilot site to local people and stakeholders were also conducted.
