STUDY VISIT OF STUDENTS FROM BURAPHA UNIVERSITY

The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) gave warm welcomed to 44 students and a lecturer from the Faculty of Marine Technology, Burapha University (Chantaburi Campus) on 26 October 2019. The aims of visiting are to increase knowledge and experience of students outside the study room. Furthermore, SEAFDEC/TD roles and activities conducted in the region through the lecture on “Situation of fisheries in ASEAN” was introduced and imparted to all students. The students had a practice in fishing gear and net repair. Moreover, visiting TD facilities such as the fishing workshop and M.V.SEAFDEC was also conducted.

REGIONAL WORKSHOP ON RESOURCES MANAGEMENT IN ASEAN

The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) organized The Regional Workshop on Facilitating Fisheries Activities Information Gathering through the Introduction of Community-based Resources Management/ Co-management in the Southeast Asian Region” from 22 to 24 October 2019 in Sakon Nakon Province which was located in the northeast of Thailand. There were 54 participants from SEAFDEC Member Countries who were senior officers responsible for small-scale    fisheries development and/or coastal and inland fisheries management attended in the Workshop. The workshop came up with 1) identification of problems/challenges including a recommendation on key factors toward development/ improvement of fisheries information gathering through CBRM/Co-management approach, and 2) proceedings of the Regional Workshop, comprising lessons learned from the project and relevant initiatives. This Workshop is an activity under the project of “Enhancing the Compilation and Utilization of Fishery Statistics and Information for Sustainable Development and Management of Fisheries in Southeast Asian Region: Facilitating fisheries activities information gathering through the introduction of Community-based Resources Management/Co-management.”

FISHERIES STUDENTS FROM KASETSART UNIVERSITY VISITS TD FACILITIES

The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) gave warm welcomed to 107 fresh students and 2 lecturers from Faculty of Fisheries, Kasetsart University on 5 October 2019. The aimed of visiting are to increased knowledge and experienced of students outside the study room. Furthermore, SEAFDEC/TD roles and activities conducted in the region through the lecture on “Type of fishing in Southeast Asia” were introduced and imparted to all students. Moreover, the students had a chance of visiting TD facilities such as the fishing workshop and M.V.SEAFDEC.

SEAFDEC/TD PARTICIPATES AND PRESENTS IN THE ICFE 2019

Four (4) representatives from the SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) participated in “International Conference on Fisheries Engineering 2019: Realizing a Healthy Ecosystem and Sustainable Use of the Seas and Oceans” which organized by The Japanese Society of Fisheries Engineering and co-organized by Nagasaki University from 21 to 24 September 2019 at Nagasaki University in Japan. The conference was attended by more than 80 participants, such as professors and students from various universities e.g. Nagasaki University, Hokkaido University, The University of Tokyo, Hirosaki University, University of the Highlands and Islands (UK) and other organizations. The conference aimed to review today’s Fisheries Engineering research and discuss the future direction of research. During the Conference, four representatives from SEAFDEC/TD were presented on four titles, like 1) Installation of Fish Enhancing Devices in Southeast Asian Waters: Case Study in the Coastal Areas of Thailand; 2) Promotion Efficient Energy Use in Fishing Vessels: Improvement of hauling devices and freezing system: A case study in Pattani Province, Thailand; 3) Fishery Resources Survey in the Gulf of Thailand with Preliminary Finding on Marine Debris and 4) Electronic System of ASEAN Catch Documentation Scheme: an Effective Fisheries Management Tool.

TRAINING ON eACDS APPLICATION FOR VIET NAM

The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) organized the on-site training on the use of electronic ASEAN Catch Documentation Scheme (eACDS) for fishery officers and fishermen in Binh Thuan Province, Viet Nam from 26 to 30 August 2019. There were twelve participants (1 woman and 11 men) who conduct and authorize at the port for port-in and port-out activities from Phan Thiet, Phu Hai and Lagi fishing port through fishermen in Binh Thuan Province attended this training. The training course aimed to impart knowledge and understanding of the use of eACDS application for Port-in Port-out issuance, offline catch report at sea and issuing the Catch Declaration and Movement Document which is a part of fishery product traceability system. After the training course, the participant can use and better understand the eACDS system in the part of port-out, port-in, issue initial Catch Declaration (CD), catch record at sea and issue Movement Documentation (MD).
