The Online Training Course on Fisheries Management Tools for EAFM

The Regional Online Training Course on Fisheries Management Tools for Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) was organized from 23 to 27 August 2021 by SEAFDEC/TD via zoom platform. There were 36 participants (14 Female and 22 Male) from SEAFDEC Member Countries, namely: Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, and Thailand, including SEAFDEC/TD staff attend in this Training. The training aimed to provide the participants with knowledge and skills that would enable them to identify the appropriate management tools that address common EAFM issues in the Southeast Asian region. The curriculums are focused on managing fishery activities under environmental issues, as well as on achieving social, economic and governance objectives based on the EAFM components. In the end, the participants can select the management tools that could be used for implementing the EAFM in their respective countries.

 

SEAFDEC/TD Participation in International Workshop on Eradication of IUU Fishing

A representative from the SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), Mr.Kongpathai Saraphaivanich, Head of Training and Information Section and project manager of “Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Enhancing National Capacities to Eliminate IUU Fishing in Southeast Asia participated in “The International Workshop on Eradication of Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing for Regional Plan of Action to Promote Responsible Fishing Practices Including Combating IUU Fishing in the Region” which organized by the RPOA-IUU Secretariat and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia from 9 to 11 August 2021. The main aims of workshop to increase mutual understanding regarding aspects in the prevention and eradication of IUU fishing through strengthen cooperation amongst RPOA-IUU Participating countries and Pacific Countries in the prevention and eradication of IUU Fishing. In this occasion, SEAFDEC/TD was invited to present on the subject of “Regional Capacity Building to Combat IUU Fishing in Southeast Asia” which focused on initiative implementation activities and capacity building on combating IUU fishing by SEAFDEC for ASEAN Member States.

The Fisheries Refugia Project Organizes Forth Regional Scientific and Technical Committee Meeting

The Project Coordinating Unit (PCU) of the Fisheries Refugia Project organized The Forth Regional Scientific and Technical Committee Meeting (RSTC4) on 22 July 2021 via the Zoom platform. This meeting is one of the regional activities under the SEAFDEC/UNEP/GEF Project on Establishment and Operation of a Regional System of Fisheries Refugia in the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. There were more than thirty people who are key participants as National and Scientific and Technical Focal Point from six participating countries, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam through the regional experts from various institution as well as Technical Officer from SEAFDEC/TD attended to this Meeting. The highlighted topics for Meeting is to update on the progress of project activities at the national level and regional level, as well as, discuss on the issues and challenges related to the project implementation. The meeting also discusses on the strategic plan towards 2022.

The Online Meeting on the Results of HRD-EAFM and the EAFM Implementation in the Learning Sites

The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) organized the Online Meeting on the Results of Human Resources Development on Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (HRD-EAFM) and the EAFM implementation in the learning site on 20 July 2021 via zoom platform. This Meeting was participated by 26 participants (14 Females and 12 Males) from SEAFDEC/TD including four (4) learning site namely Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Thailand. The Meeting reviewed on the implementation of EAFM and results of monitoring and evaluation of HRD-EAFM through verification of EAFM implementation in four learning sites. The results found that the EAFM training and implementation in the learning site are best practices for developing a fisheries management plan to archive the sustainable enrichment of fisheries resources and improve the livelihood of fisherfolks. The Meeting also recommended to continue promoting EAFM in Southeast Asia via EAFM training through implementation of EAFM in the learning sites with engaging local fisher and fisheries relevant agencies and partners.

Training Course on Fish Population Dynamics and Fisheries Management

The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) organized the Training Course on Fish Population Dynamics and Fisheries Management by Using R-statistical Program from 19 to 23 July 2021 via zoom platform which main aim to enhance the capacity of human resources from SEAFDEC Member Countries on fish population dynamics and fisheries management using R-statistical program. There were 50 participants (29 males and 21 females) who are fisheries officers and researchers from SEAFDEC Member Countries attended in this online training. At the end, the participants were expected to improve their knowledge on fish population dynamics and fisheries management by using R-statistical program through enhance information sharing on the population dynamics of transboundary species in the region and strengthening the network of researchers on fish population dynamics and fisheries management in the Southeast Asian region.
