KOREA REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION VISIT TD

On 5 September 2016, twenty eight members from Korea Regional Development Foundation visited the SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) in order to discuss on benchmark the overall R&D systems in fishing industry through observe and visit TD facilities such as fishing workshop, fishing engineering workshop and M.V.SEAFDEC. The Korea Regional Development Foundation is an organization which fosters and supports each region to develop its future autonomously through pursue an integrated development of economy, society, culture and environment in each region to maximize the value of diversification in agriculture and farming area. 

TD SUPPORT FiA/CAMBODIA TO DEVELOP THE DATABASE OF FISHING VESSELS LICENSING

The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) has been supporting the Fishery Administration of Cambodia (FiA) to develop the database of fishing vessels licensing as requirement for a tool to reduce IUU fishing. The observation on fishing port, fishing vessels and landing site was conducted at pilot site in Koh Kong Province from 29 August to 2 September 2016. Moreover, introduction and work plan to implementation of the database which developed by TD in collaboration with FiA were presented and discussed to sixteen fishery officers in pilot site.

FISHERIES HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FROM JAPAN VISIT TD FACILITIES

The SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) gave warm welcome to three teachers and six students from the Yaizu Fisheries High School of Japan on 18 August 2016. The high school group visited TD facilities such as fishing and engineering workshop through observed on M.V. SEAFDEC and M.V.SEAFDEC 2. Moreover, they visited and observed natural shrimp farm and mangrove area in Phasamutchedi District and fish market in Paknum, Samut Prakan.

CAPACITY BUILDING ON FISH HANDLING TECHNIQUES IN THE REGION

The Regional Training Course on Fish Handling Techniques Applicable to Various Fishing Operations in Southeast Asia organized in the SEAFDEC Training Department (TD) from 22 to 26 August 2016. Eighteen participants from SEAFDEC Member Countries attended in this course. The training course is designed to build human resource capacity on basic post-harvest and fish handling techniques applicable to various fishing operations in the region through provided a comprehensive knowledge and best practical on the fish preservation such as hygienic practice under safety working condition, the utilize of cooling application, fish hold and equipment required for achieving and maintaining good practices, maximizing the quality and benefit returns on the catches which they can apply and promote to reduction of the post-harvest losses in their country after achieved from this course.

SEAFDEC JOINS ASEAN FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE EXPOSITION

The SEAFDEC Training Department joined “ASEAN Fisheries and Aquaculture Conference and Exposition 2016: ASEAN Seafood for the World and 11th Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum and Exhibition: Asian Food Security for the World” from 4 to 6 August 2016 at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC) in Bangkok, Thailand. At the exposition, SEAFDEC presented the activities in focus, promotion of countermeasures tools to reduce IUU fishing, fishery resources survey in collaboration with Member Countries, responsible fisheries and fish passage for sustainable fishery resource. Moreover, the information packages and documents were distributed to audiences as strengthening of SEAFDEC visibility and image.
