Capacity Building on Sustainable Fisheries Resources Management for University Students

SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) organized “The 63rd Short-term Training Course on Eco-friendly Fisheries for Sustainable Fisheries Resources Management for University Students” from 19 to 26 April 2023 at SEAFDEC/TD, Samut Prakan, Thailand. There were 20 students from three universities in Thailand such as Kasetsart University, Burapha University (Bangsaen Campus), and Prince of Songkla University including two universities from Japan such as Hokkaido University, and Tsuda University participated in this training. The training session consists of in-class lectures, practice (in the fishing workshop, and onboard practice), and a fishery community field trip survey.  The students were expected to gain knowledge and understanding of fishing gear and oceanography through experience in assembling fishing gear and oceanography and be able to operate simple fishing gear during onboard practices. Moreover, they can build networks among students from different universities. This training is an activity under the project “Promotion on Strengthening of SEAFDEC Visibility and Enhancing Human Capacity Building”.
