SEAFDEC Highlights Thailand’s Experience on Empowering Small-Scale Fishers at International Workshop on Fishery Sustainable Development in Countries along the South China Sea

Ms. Jariya Sornkliang, Fisheries Management Researcher of SEAFDEC/TD represented SEAFDEC at the International Symposium on Sustainable Fisheries Development in Countries around the South China Sea, to be held from 17 to 18 September 2026 in Nanning, Guangxi, China. The workshop aimed at promoting regional cooperation and knowledge exchange on fisheries management, science-based conservation, aquaculture innovation, and market access for small-scale fisheries.

On 18 September, Ms. Sornkliang joined the session on Market Access for Small-scale Fisheries and Fish Farmer: Change and Opportunity. She shared Thailand’s experience in small-scale fisheries development and market access, alongside representatives from Indonesia, Viet Nam, and China. The session discussed challenges and opportunities for improving small-scale fishers’ access to regional and international markets, including traceability, market standards, information, finance, and technology. Her participation contributed to SEAFDEC’s experience in small-scale fisheries value chain and supply chain development program. Including shares the effort of Thailand DOF in supporting the marketing access of fisheries product as Fishermen shop for sustainable livelihoods.
