The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), through its Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries (DOF), Thailand, conducted the Training of Trainers (TOT) on Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) in Fisheries Management on 1–2 October 2026 at the DOF in Bangkok, Thailand. The training brought together 10 participants, comprising eight women and two men, with the aim of strengthening their capacity to serve as GESI trainers and support the integration of GESI into fisheries management. Building on previous GESI capacity-building activities, the training emphasized understanding the different roles, needs, opportunities, and constraints of women, men, and diverse social groups in fisheries. The training was facilitated by Dr. Sansanee Wangvoralak, Socioeconomic Expert, and Dr. Perada Phumessawatdi, Director of the Human Rights Situation Monitoring and Evaluation Bureau, who provided technical guidance and constructive feedback throughout the training.
Through interactive lectures, group discussions, participatory exercises, teaching practice, and feedback sessions, participants strengthened their understanding of GESI concepts and developed practical skills in adult learning, facilitation, communication, and training design. Participants also practiced designing and delivering GESI training sessions, enabling them to apply their knowledge and improve their facilitation skills. The TOT contributed to establishing a core group of GESI trainers capable of replicating GESI training and further promoting gender-responsive and socially inclusive approaches in fisheries policies, programs, and institutional practices.
