The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries (DOF), Thailand, organized the Workshop on Preparation and Validation of the Inland Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (Inland EAFM) Training Toolkit from 20 to 22 October 2026 at SEAFDEC/TD, Samut Prakan, Thailand.
The workshop brought together 9 participants (5 women and 4 men) from DOF and SEAFDEC/TD to review, refine, and validate the Inland EAFM training materials. Building on the outcomes of the Kick-off Workshop held on 29–30 June 2026, the workshop aimed to ensure the technical accuracy, clarity, consistency, and practical relevance of the materials to Thailand’s inland fisheries context. It also sought to finalize the Inland EAFM Training Toolkit and identify key considerations for future training and capacity-building activities, including the development of qualified Inland EAFM trainers.
During the three-day workshop, participants reviewed and refined the training modules, PowerPoint presentations, practical exercises, case studies, and other supporting materials to ensure their suitability for effective training delivery. Discussions also addressed potential target groups, training arrangements, and preparations for future Training of Trainers (ToT) activities. These efforts contributed to strengthening the readiness of DOF and SEAFDEC/TD to conduct Inland EAFM training and promote its practical application in Thailand.
The workshop marked an important milestone in the Inland EAFM Project (2026–2030), which aims to strengthen institutional capacity and promote the application of an ecosystem approach to inland fisheries management in Thailand. The validated training materials and finalized toolkit are expected to serve as essential resources for future capacity-building activities and the development of a pool of Inland EAFM trainers. Through continued collaboration between SEAFDEC/TD and DOF, the initiative will contribute to promoting sustainable and effective inland fisheries management in Thailand.
