The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) assigned specialists from its Fishing Technology Section to Burapha University on 21 September 2026, to serve as guest lecturers. They delivered a comprehensive session on Basic Fishing Gear to 60 students, aiming to foster practical learning and equip the next generation with essential skills for the fisheries sector.
The training seamlessly integrated theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice. Students attended lectures on Thai fishing gear, exploring the various materials and construction techniques used in the industry. Beyond the classroom theory, the students engaged in highly practical workshops. These included mastering essential fishing knots, utilizing precision tools like Vernier calipers and micrometers to measure mesh sizes, materials, and twine thickness, as well as calculating the net hanging ratio.
Through this interactive session, all 60 students gained invaluable insights and direct experience applicable to real-world scenarios. SEAFDEC/TD is confident that this robust foundation in fishing gear technology will significantly enhance the students’ practical skills, paving the way for their future academic research and careers in the marine and fisheries industry.
