SEAFDEC/TD Conducts Socioeconomic Survey using the digital data collection tool in Bangsaphan District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province

The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), in collaboration with the Bangsaphan District Fisheries Office and the Chumphon Marine Fisheries Research and Development Center, conducted a Socioeconomic Survey using the digital data collection tool KoboToolbox from 6 to 10 October 2025 in Bangsaphan District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Thailand. The activity was also supported by the Department of Fisheries (DOF) Headquarters, particularly in the application of the KoboToolbox platform. The survey aims to collect baseline data from local fishing communities to gain their socioeconomic conditions, livelihood status, and key challenges. The information gathered will serve as an important input for developing appropriate fisheries management plans, as well as for strengthening community resilience, resource conservation, and livelihood development.

Data were collected through interviews with 80 respondents, comprising boat owners and fishers who are members of nine local fisher groups in Bangsaphan District. The use of the KoboToolbox digital platform ensured efficient, accurate, and systematic data recording. In addition, the data were collected through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with representatives from local fisher groups to develop a seasonal calendar and explore gender-related aspects. The discussion engaged both men and women participants to ensure diverse perspectives from the fishing communities. This activity provides a valuable foundation for ongoing monitoring and future fisheries co-management planning, supporting SEAFDEC/TD’s continued efforts to promote sustainable and inclusive small-scale fisheries in the region.
