Technical Meeting for the Discussion and Finalization of Activities and Work Plan for the Fishing Gear Marking Study

SEAFDEC/TD organized the “Technical Meeting for the Discussion and Finalization of Activities and Work Plan for the Fishing Gear Marking Study” on 8–9 June 2026 at SEAFDEC/TD. The meeting was attended by a total of 19 participants (4 Female and 15 Male). This meeting was under the Sustainable Management of Fisheries, Marine Living Resources and Their Habitats in the Bay of Bengal Region for the Benefit of Coastal States and Communities Project (BOBLME Phase II), Component 3: Management of coastal and marine pollution to improve ecosystem health, Output 3.1.2, which aims to promote fishing gear marking and to develop and share related regional guidelines.

This meeting was convened following the webinar on sharing knowledge and experiences on fishing gear marking for the sub-regional study on lost fishing gear and fishing gear marking, held in October 2025, to further discuss and finalize the study activities and work plan in the participating BOBLME-Phase-II countries. The expected outputs from the meeting were: (1) an implementation plan for the study in each country, including key considerations; (2) the selection of pilot sites; (3) an agreement on the study methodology; and (4) the clarification of roles, responsibilities, and logistical arrangements.

This activity was conducted under the Bay of Bengal Large Marine Ecosystems Phase II (BOBLME II) project, implemented by FAO and executed by IUCN, BOBP-IGO and SEAFDEC, funded by GEF and Norad.
