The Regional Seminar on the Progress of Fish Stock Assessment

SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) organized the “Regional Seminar on the Progress of Fish Stock Assessment in SEAFDEC Member Countries” from 16 to 18 October 2024 at SEAFDEC/TD, Samut Prakan, Thailand. The Seminar aimed to update on the stock assessment and its related activities/research in the region as well as provide the update of the other tropical regions and strengthen the knowledge and exchange the experience of the fishery officers of SEAFDEC Member Countries related to the stock assessment methods implemented in their country. Eighteen participants from SEAFDEC Member Countries and Departments (TD and MFRDMD) attended in the Seminar. The Seminar’s topics were divided into four parts namely 1) data collection and effort standardization models, 2) fishery biostatistics, 3) stock assessment models, and 4) management advisory. In the end, the Seminar came up with summary report on the stock assessment methods implemented in the region with the reference points used, the regional stock assessment networks and way forward on the possible regional fishery stock status (biomass, yield, effort trend, etc.).
