participatedSEAFDEC/TD participated in the 8th Marine Science Conference on Science, Technology, and Innovation for Changing Seas, held from 25–27 June 2025 at Rua Rasada Hotel, Trang Province, Thailand.
During the conference, Ms. Rattana Tiaye, Fisheries Management Scientist from the Training Department of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC/TD), attended and presented poster in Session D: Natural Resource Management, Marine Protected Areas, National Maritime Interests (in scientific, economic, social, logistics, maritime commerce, and marine legal dimensions). She was honored with the Outstanding Poster Presentation Award (General public) for her academic work entitled “Application of Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management and Co-Management for Livelihood Improvement in Ban Hat Sai Khao, Ranong Province, Thailand.”
The awarded poster presented the application of the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) integrated with co-management to address marine resource depletion and ecosystem changes in small-scale fishing communities, using Ban Hat Sai Khao, Ranong Province as a case study. Key interventions included establishing a squid bank, promoting seafood processing for income diversification, and releasing aquatic species for ecosystem restoration, with results highlighting the importance of community participation and adaptive management in improving marine resource conservation and local livelihoods.
This recognition reflects SEAFDEC/TD’s continued commitment to advancing science-based, participatory approaches for sustainable fisheries and community well-being in the Southeast Asian region.
