SEAFDEC Strategic Planning Meeting on Fisheries Acoustics for Stock Assessments in Southeast Asia

The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) hosted the “SEAFDEC Strategic Planning Meeting on Fisheries Acoustics for Stock Assessments in Southeast Asia” from 17 to 18 February 2026 at SEAFDEC/TD, Samut Prakan, Thailand. A total of 18 representatives from SEAFDEC Departments, comprising four from the SEAFDEC Secretariat, three from SEAFDEC/IFRDMD, three from SEAFDEC/MFRDMD (one in person and two online), and eight from SEAFDEC/TD participated in the Meeting.

This meeting aims to review existing hydroacoustic activities among SEAFDEC Departments, jointly formulate short-, medium-, and long-term regional workplans, and define roles and collaboration mechanisms to strengthen sustainable hydroacoustic-based fisheries resource assessment across Southeast Asia. This meeting is the activity under JTF7 project titled, “Enhanced Marine Research Capacities to Manage Fisheries Resources: Enhancing capacity for the estimating fishery biomass through scientific hydroacoustic surveys”.
