The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Thailand, organized the “Formalization Meeting of the Fisheries Management Plan in Bang Saphan District” on 24–26 March 2026. The meeting was conducted under the project “Improving Fishers’ Livelihood and Fisheries Co-management in Inland and Coastal Small-scale Fisheries,” which has been implemented in Bang Saphan District since 2025.
Following earlier activities, the fisheries management plan was developed with the involvement of key stakeholders. The plan focuses on promoting sustainable fisheries resource management through community participation, while also addressing improvements in fishers’ quality of life. The objectives of the meeting were to raise awareness of the fisheries management plan among relevant stakeholders and to discuss initial approaches for its implementation.
The program included consultations with provincial and district-level agencies, presentation of the fisheries management plan, and discussions to identify practical directions for future operations. Participants included representatives from SEAFDEC/TD, Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Fisheries Office, Bang Saphan District Fisheries Office, and the Bang Saphan Fisheries Network, as well as government officials, local administrative organizations, the National Park authority, and partner agencies such as Sahaviriya Steel Industries.
The event provided an opportunity to strengthen coordination among stakeholders and to build a shared understanding toward the effective implementation of the plan. In addition, a project signboard was installed at the fishers’ group site to enhance visibility and awareness of the project.
