Workshop on Needs for Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance (MCS) Implementation and Capacity Building to Combat IUU Fishing in Thailand

The SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Thailand, organized the Workshop on Needs for Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance (MCS) Implementation and Capacity Building to Combat IUU Fishing in Thailand on 9 June 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. The Workshop was attended by 50 participants from the Department of Fisheries, Thailand, including representatives from the Fish Inspection and Quality Control Division, Fisheries and Fleet Management Division, Fisheries Control and Surveillance Division, Fisheries Foreign Affairs Division, Fisheries Resources Management and Measures Determination Division, Information and Communication Technology Center, Labor Union in the Fishing Industry, and Legal Affairs Division, the Thai Maritime Enforcement Command Center (Thai-MECC), Kasetsart University, and SEAFDEC/TD.

The Workshop aimed to share the results of a study and review on the needs for Monitoring, Control, and Surveillance (MCS) implementation and associated capacity building to combat IUU fishing in Thailand, strengthen understanding of national and international fisheries legal instruments and law enforcement frameworks that support efforts to combat IUU fishing, and enhance coordination and collaboration among relevant officers involved in MCS activities to combat IUU fishing within the Department of Fisheries, Thailand.

In this regard, the Workshop was conducted as one of the activities under the project “Sustainable Management of Fisheries, Marine Living Resources and Their Habitats in the Bay of Bengal Region for the Benefit of Coastal States and Communities (BOBLME II).”
