The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries (DOF), Thailand, organized the Consultation Workshop to Finalize the Fisheries Resources Valuation Framework from 14 to 15 October 2026 at the SEAFDEC Secretariat, Bangkok, Thailand. The workshop is part of the project “Valuation of Marine Fisheries Resources in Rayong Bay,” which aims to strengthen the application of economic valuation in fisheries management and support evidence-based decision-making that recognizes the ecological, economic, and social values of marine fisheries resources. Building on the Training Workshop on Economic Valuation Assessment of Marine Fisheries Resources conducted in May 2026. The consultation aimed to review and refine the draft valuation framework and develop a research roadmap for its practical application.
The workshop brought together 31 participants and resource persons (13 men and 18 women) from the Department of Fisheries (DOF) headquarters, Marine Fisheries Research and Development Centers in Rayong, Samut Prakan, and Phuket, Kasetsart University (KU), the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), and SEAFDEC/TD. Through technical presentations on fisheries resource valuation frameworks delivered by resource persons from KU and DMCR, case studies from Rayong and Phuket Provinces, group discussions, and consultations, participants identified practical considerations and recommendations for improving the framework. The workshop resulted in a refined fisheries resource valuation framework and a research roadmap to guide future valuation studies and support evidence-based decision-making and sustainable fisheries management in Thailand. Furthermore, participants discussed the way forward and recommended procedures for applying the developed framework for developing the next phase of project activities and contributing to the achievement of the overall project outcomes.
