SEAFDEC Empowers Next Generation with Ecosystem-Based Fisheries Management at Burapha University

The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) organized a seminar titled “Ecosystem-Based Fisheries for Sustainable Fisheries Resources Management” from 26 to 28 August 2026 at Burapha University, Chanthaburi Campus. The event aimed to promote sustainable practices in the region by providing students with practical knowledge about the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) and connecting classroom learning with real-world marine conservation.

To introduce students to the core concepts of EAFM, SEAFDEC staff conducted interactive learning sessions to share real-world experiences and practical examples. They demonstrated how SEAFDEC applied EAFM principles in its daily operations, giving participants a clearer picture of how to support long-term fisheries sustainability.

The seminar also featured student alumni who had previously completed the SEAFDEC University Student Training Course: Ecosystem-Based Fisheries for Sustainable Fisheries Resources Management. These former participants shared what they learned and how they applied their skills, helping guide junior students on how to prepare for future SEAFDEC programs. This peer-to-peer connection strengthens youth networks and encourages a long-term commitment to sustainable fisheries management.
