The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center/Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) organized the Training on Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) in Fisheries Management from 25 to 27 August 2026 at SEAFDEC/TD, Samut Prakan, Thailand. The training was conducted to support the Department of Fisheries (DOF), Thailand, in strengthening fisheries officers’ capacity to integrate GESI considerations into fisheries management policies, projects, programs, and research. The training aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of gender concepts, introduce practical tools for gender mainstreaming and social inclusion, and strengthen their capacity to apply GESI approaches in fisheries management.
A total of 30 DOF fisheries officers (22 women and 8 men) participated in the training. Resource persons from the Department of Women’s Affairs and Family Development and the Office of the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand were invited to share their knowledge and expertise. The three-day training included presentations, discussions, practical exercises, and a field survey for data collection and gender analysis. Participants explored practical approaches to integrating GESI considerations into fisheries management, with emphasis on the different roles, needs, challenges, and contributions of women, men, and diverse social groups in the fisheries sector. The participants are expected to apply the GESI knowledge and tools gained in their respective institutions and activities, contributing to more gender-responsive, inclusive, equitable, and sustainable fisheries governance in Thailand.
