Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on Fisher’s Livelihood Improvement through Thai River Sprat Supply Chain in Nam Ngum Reservoir Study Results, Keo Oudom District, Vientiane Province, Lao PDR

On 20 August 2026, the Training Department of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC/TD), in collaboration with the Department of Livestock and Fisheries (DLF) of Lao PDR, organized the Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on Fishers’ Livelihood Improvement through the Thai River Sprat Supply Chain Study Results at Ban Sang Sawang, Keo Oudom District, Vientiane Province, Lao PDR. The workshop was conducted under the Japanese Trust Fund VII (JTF7) project to support fisheries co-management and improve small-scale fishers’ livelihoods through supply chain development.

The workshop brought together key stakeholders, including 13 fishers and processors, two traders, one restaurant owner, one local authority representative, four SEAFDEC/TD researchers, and five DLF officers, to review and validate the findings of the Thai River Sprat supply chain study conducted in Nam Ngum Reservoir in December 2025.

Through participatory discussions, participants identified priority actions to improve market access, strengthen dried Thai River Sprat processing and preservation during the rainy season, and support fisheries resource enhancement to maintain a sustainable supply of Thai River Sprat from Nam Ngum Reservoir. The workshop also strengthened stakeholders’ knowledge of climate resilience and Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) as cross-cutting issues, contributing to a more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive Thai River Sprat supply chain and improved community livelihoods in Lao PDR.
