Representing the SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), Mr. Kongpathai Saraphaivanich, Head of the Training and Research Supporting Division, served as a presenter and panelist on 22 October 2026 in the session “End-to-End Traceability for Trust and Integrity” at the Tokyo Sustainable Seafood Summit 2026 (TSSS 2026) in Tokyo, Japan.
His presentation highlighted SEAFDEC’s ongoing initiatives to combat Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing by establishing regional instruments, strengthening technical capacity, and deploying electronic traceability systems across ASEAN Member States (AMSs). Key efforts featured during the session include regional guidelines on technical frameworks to safeguard supply chain integrity across aquaculture and marine capture fisheries, capacity building via hosting 25 specialized training programs and workshops for 606 participants between 2020 and 2026 to elevate regional traceability system capabilities, and developing the electronic ASEAN Catch Documentation Scheme (eACDS) as a prototype tool, driving the rollout of both paper-based and digital traceability systems throughout Southeast Asia. During the panel discussion, Mr. Kongpathai underscored SEAFDEC’s past achievements in assisting AMSs with traceability implementations and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to delivering continuous support in the future.
The Tokyo Sustainable Seafood Summit 2026 (TSSS 2026) is Asia’s premier conference dedicated to advancing sustainable fisheries, marine conservation, and responsible seafood supply chains. Co-hosted by Seafood Legacy and Nikkei ESG, the three-day summit brings together fishers, seafood companies, researchers, civil society organizations, and policymakers to turn community-rooted solutions into global impacts. Guided by the theme “Resonating Actions, Scaling Impact” and the goal to “Win the Mainstream by 2030,” TSSS 2026 serves as a collaborative platform to advance end-to-end supply chain traceability, foster blue finance, elevate human rights standards in seafood, and honor sustainable leadership through the 7th Japan Sustainable Seafood Awards.
