SEAFDEC Participate in FAO-SHOU-UNCTAD Workshop on Market Access for Small-Scale Fisheries

A representative from SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), Ms. Thanyalak Suasi participated in the Workshop on “Market Access for Small-Scale Fisheries (SSF) and the Belt and Road Initiative: Challenges and Prospects” from 28 to 29 November 2024 at Shanghai Ocean University, Shanghai, China. This Workshop co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU) and, the United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The Workshop was attended by 42 participants including representatives from Asian Countries, Regional and International Organization, Associations, Academic Institution, NGOs and Fishers representatives. The workshop discussed the challenges and opportunities for improving SSF market access, covered the government policies facilitating SSF market access, highlighted the difficulties faced by SSF in accessing international markets and explored innovative strategies. The participants shared knowledge and exchanged experiences and perspectives on improving the market integration of small-scale fisheries. The event concluded with discussions on actionable recommendations to improve market access and enhance the sustainability of the SSF sector.
