SEAFDEC/TD Joined Regional workshop on Strengthening sustainable Aquatic Food Value Chains for Enhanced Food Security and Nutrition in Asia

The representative from the SEAFDEC Training Department Ms. Jariya Sornkliang, Fisheries Management Scientist, participated in the Regional Workshop on Strengthening Sustainable Aquatic Food Value Chains for Enhanced Food Security and Nutrition in Asia held from 2 to 4 December 2025 in Chennai, India. The workshop, organized by FAO in collaboration with BOBP-IGO, brought together government officials, researchers, and civil society stakeholders to share knowledge and experiences on promoting sustainable aquatic food value chains across Asia. This provided a valuable opportunity to exchange insights with partners and representatives from 11 participating countries from Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Viet Nam.

During the workshop, SEAFDEC delivered a presentation titled Aquatic Food Value Chain: Status and Key Concerns in SEAFDEC Countries. The presentation outlined the regional policy framework for sustainable fisheries in the ASEAN region toward 2030, highlighted SEAFDEC’s ongoing programs supporting fishers’ livelihoods through improved supply and value chains, and summarized current supply and value chain situations in SEAFDEC Member Countries based on findings from recent SEAFDEC workshops. Moreover, she served as the chair for the second round of country presentations, which included six countries are India, Maldives, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Viet Nam. In this session, each country highlighted their national realities, key achievements, and challenges in strengthening sustainable aquatic food value chains.
