SEAFDEC Training Development (SEAFDEC/TD) successfully organized the “65th Short-term Training Course for University Students on Ecosystem-Based Fisheries for Sustainable Fisheries Resources Management” from 20 to 30 May 2025 at its office in Samut Prakan, Thailand. The ten-day intensive training program aimed to equip the next generation of fisheries professionals with essential knowledge and skills for the sustainable management of fisheries resources. Participants gained insights into ecosystem-based fisheries management principles, learned coral reef survey techniques, developed skills in designing questionnaires for socio-economic data collection within fishing communities, and acquired practical experience in operating small vessels, including critical safety procedures and survival techniques at sea.
A diverse group of 32 enthusiastic students from nine prominent universities participated in the course. These institutions included Kasetsart University, Chulalongkorn University, Burapha University (including its Chanthaburi Campus), Maejoe University, Prince of Songkla University, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Phetchaburi College of Agriculture and Technology, and Hokkaido University (Japan).
The training curriculum incorporated a blend of engaging in-class lectures, interactive group discussions, and hands-on practical sessions. It is anticipated that the students will significantly enhance their knowledge and practical experience in the fisheries sector, complementing their university studies. Furthermore, the program fostered teamwork among the students, promoting valuable collaboration and efficiency for their future professional endeavors.
