Training for Trainer on Onboard Tuna Handling Preservation and Transport

SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) organized the tailor-made training course of “Training for Trainer on Onboard Tuna Handling Preservation and Transport” for INFOFISH from 27 to 28 May 2024, at Training Department, Samut Prakan, Thailand. The Training aimed at providing technical knowledge on onboard tuna handling techniques applicable to various fishing operations in the ASEAN and Asia-Pacific regions. There were 13 government officials who were involved in tuna post-harvest and quality assurance from INFOFISH Member Countries participated in the Training. The Training comprised a literature review session to provide participants with an understanding of fish handling tools, facilities, the current situation, and problems in Tuna handling in the Asia-Pacific region, and Field observation of Tuna handling, preservation, and transportation techniques in a landing site. At the end, the participants expected to gain knowledge and experience on onboard tuna handling, preservation, and transportation methods, which will enable them to guarantee quality for significant export destinations through practical insights while visiting onboard tuna fishing vessels.  

INFOFISH is an Intergovernmental Organization set up by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to provide marketing information and technical advisory services for fishery products in the Asia Pacific Region and beyond. It is based in Kuala Lumpur and hosted by Malaysia since its inception in 1981. INFOFISH has as its members: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Fiji, Kiribati, Malaysia, Maldives, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, and Thailand.
