The Survey and Consultation Meeting to Define EAFM Learning Site for EAFM Implementation in Thailand

Under implementation of the project “the sustainable management of fisheries, marine living resources, and their habitats in the Bay of Bengal region for the benefit of coastal states and community (BOBLME II project), the survey to define Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) learning sites for EAFM implementation in Thailand was conducted on 8 and 15 August 2024. The surveys were conducted by Department of Fisheries officers along the coast of Andaman Province, covering Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang, and Satun Province. Moreover, the “Consultation Meeting to Define EAFM Learning Sites for EAFM Implementation in Thailand” was organized from 22 to 23 August 2024. at the Marine Fisheries Research and Development Center in Phuket Province, Thailand. The Meeting aimed to define two appropriate Fisheries Management Units (FMUs) for EAFM learning sites, one in the lower Andaman and one in the upper Andaman coastline. Thirteen participants (7 males and 6 females) from the Department of Fisheries, Thailand and SEAFDEC/TD attended in this Meeting. The FMUs characteristics were analyzed and discussed on the readiness to support the project’s objectives and institutionalize EAFM at a national level. The Meeting came up with a list of the two designated FMUs for EAFM implementation in the respective Andaman coastal regions.
