Two researchers of the SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), Ms. Thanyalak Suasi and Ms. Woraluk Meesomwat participated in the “Workshop on the Assessment of Thailand’s Ocean Health Index (OHI) 2025” from 16 to 17 September 2025 at the Centara Life Government Complex Hotel & Convention Centre, Chaeng Watthana, Bangkok. This workshop organized by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) in collaboration with Burapha University, aimed to strengthen national efforts in assessing and advancing the Ocean Health Index (OHI) as part of the implementation of the Master Plan under the National Strategy (2018–2037). The workshop highlighted the OHI conceptual framework and introduced the use of OHI for Thailand, covered the progress of Thailand’s OHI assessment for 2024–2025, the integration of international databases, and the linkages between national and global OHI indicators. Participating agencies also shared the types of data contributed by Thailand to the assessment process.
In addition to the technical discussions, participants engaged in hands-on exercises on OHI calculation, including practical sessions using the OHI Toolbox to strengthen national capacity in applying the methodology. Through this workshop, Thailand aims to enhance its ability to monitor and evaluate the health of marine and coastal ecosystems, contributing to evidence-based management and sustainable development in line with national and international commitments.
