SEAFDEC/TD and DLF, Lao PDR Conduct the Study on the Thai River Sprat Supply Chain in Ngum Reservoir, Keo Oudom District, Vientiane Province, Lao PDR

The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), in collaboration with the Department of Livestock and Fisheries (DLF) of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), conducted a study on “Thai River Sprat Supply Chain in the Ngum Reservoir, Keo Oudom District, Vientiane Province.” The study was implemented from 15 to 19 December 2025 with support from the Japanese Trust Fund. The objective of the study was to comprehensively analyze the supply chain of Thai River Sprat harvested from the Nam Ngum Reservoir by systematically mapping key actors and examining the interactions and relationships among stakeholders at different stages of the chain. Particular attention was given to identifying challenges and constraints encountered across the production, processing, distribution, and marketing stages. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with fishers, traders, processors, and consumers to assess cost structures, pricing mechanisms, and the distribution of profits along the supply chain. The study findings are expected to contribute to a better understanding of economic efficiency, market dynamics, and opportunities for value addition, while providing evidence-based insights to support the promotion of equity, fair income distribution, and the long-term sustainability of small-scale fisheries in the Nam Ngum Reservoir.
