Online Regional Meeting on Reducing Impact to Ecosystem and Optimizing Energy in Southeast Asia

Two days “Online Regional Technical Meeting on Reducing Negative Impact to Ecosystem, Optimizing Energy and Fuel Consumption, and Enhancing Safety in Fishing Practices in Southeast Asia” was organized by the SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD) on 21 and 28 September 2020 at SEAFDEC/TD, via Google Meet platform. There were thirty-three (37) participants (4 females and 33 males) attended this Online Meeting. To prepare and obtain necessary information for SEAFDEC’s planning and effective implementation of the project activities for the years 2021-2023, a set of the online survey questionnaires were circulated to SEAFDEC Member Countries (MCs). The Online Meeting aims to gathering and updating information on technological improvements and needs assessment among all MCs to pave the way forward for planning and implementing the project activities on the changes in behavior and fishing practices would greatly result in more responsible fishing manners, mitigate damages to the aquatic ecosystems, reducing emissions and lowering fuel costs, and contributing to more economical and sustainable utilization of fishery resources and better human well-being and livelihood of the fisherfolks in the Southeast Asian region. The Online Meeting came up with valuable recommendations as inputs for SEAFDEC to draft a plan of activities on reducing negative impact to ecosystem, optimizing energy and fuel consumption, and enhancing safety in fishing practices for the years 2021-2023 under the project of “Responsible Fishing Technology and Practices”.
