Workshop on Towards a New Era of Support for Small-scale Fisheries in Southeast Asia

SEAFDEC/TD by the project Small-scale Fisheries Management for Better Livelihood and Fisheries Resources organized the “Regional Workshop Toward a New Era of Support for Small-scale Fisheries in Southeast Asia” from 29 to 31 August 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand. The workshop focused on discussion in finding current key challenges on small-scale fisheries in the region and finding recommendations as good practices as well as finding opportunities and ways forward in coping with the challenges for improving the quality of life of a fishing family through effective fisheries management approaches. 42 participants who are small-scale fisheries managers from AMSs attended the workshop. In the end, the workshop came up with 1) a list of current concepts and approaches of small-scale fisheries management systems in the region, 2) a list of critical challenges/needs of small-scale fisheries management in the region, 3) a list of recommendations as good practices to cope with the current challenges of small-scale fisheries, and 4) identification of opportunities and ways forward to support small scale fisheries in the Southeast Asian Region.
