Completion Mission of Maine Resource Assessment in Brunei Darussalam

SEAFDEC/TD in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Brunei Darussalam (DOF/BN) completed a fifty-day mission on technical support and marine resources survey in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Brunei Darussalam by using M.V. SEAFDEC 2 from 22 April to 11 June 2024. The survey aimed to assess the health and abundance of fish stocks in Brunei’s waters. The survey covered nearly 99% of Brunei’s EEZ by collecting data on demersal and pelagic fish populations, zooplankton, and fish larvae through generated scientific data to guide resilience and sustainable fisheries management practices. This information will be essential for balancing the needs of the fishing industry, which significantly contributes to national food security and coastal livelihoods, with the long-term health of Brunei’s marine ecosystem.
