Training Workshop on Fisheries Resilience to Fisheries Management

SEAFDEC/TD in collaboration with the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) under the International Technical Support Program (USAID DOI/ITAP) organized the “Training Workshop on Fisheries Resilience to Fisheries Management in Small-scale Fisheries” through “Field Trip to Conduct an Impact Assessment Study in Selecting Sites” as back-to-back activity from 18 to 25 June 2024 in Krabi Province, Thailand. Twenty-two participants (12 female and 10 male) from the Department of Fisheries, Thailand, and SEAFDEC/TD attended these events. The resource persons from Mahidol University, Prince of Songkhla University, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, and Save Andaman Foundation were invited to impart knowledge on resilience concepts applicable to small-scale fisheries management through information on the site study in Krabi Province. The Training Workshop focused on a framework for the socio-ecological system to support the resilience concept, the ability of social, ecological, and governance attributes to resist, recover, and transform for the survival of humans and nature. Moreover, field practices were conducted to assess vulnerability impacts and identify the need to build resilience in the coastal community at Lanta Island. In the end, the participants were expected to understand the fisheries resilience concept by applying to their work.
