The Consultation Workshop on the Collaborative Study on Climate Variability Caused by the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) and Its Impacts in the Andaman Sea

The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), organized the Consultation Workshop on the Collaborative Study on Climate Variability Caused by the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) and Its Impacts in the Andaman Sea on 14 November 2025 at SEAFDEC/TD, Samut Prakan, Thailand.

This consultation workshop organized with the aimed to introduce the concept, activities, and framework of the collaborative study on climate variability caused by the IOD and its impacts on fishery resources to the members of the collaborative research team to be implement for five years from 2025 to 2029. This consultation workshop was conducted under the project entitled “Enhanced Marine Research Capacities to Manage Fisheries Resources: Capacity building on marine environment change monitor and assessing their impact on fishery resources” with fund supported by the Japanese Trust Fund (JTF).

A total of 19 participants (9 women and 10 men) attended as the collaborative research team, representing from Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF), Indonesia, Department of Fisheries (DOF) Malaysia, DOF Thailand, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), Ubon Ratchathani University (UBU), Burapha University (BUU), Chanthaburi Campus, the Regional Fisheries Policy Network (RFPN) and staff from SEAFDEC MFRDMD, and TD.

During the consultation workshop, the collaborative research team agreed on the concept of collaborative study. The research team also brainstormed and discussed the details of these five-year activities and came up with the finalized five-year activities plan and the collaborative framework for implementing this study.
