Two staff members from the SEAFDEC Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), Mr. Natthawat Chutiponglapat and Mr. Krittapat Meephol, participated in the WMU–MOF–KMI CAPFISH Project Regional Summer Academy: Southeast Asia, held from 22 June to 3 July 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. The Academy brought together representatives from government agencies, regional and international organizations, academia, and industry to enhance knowledge and practical understanding of international instruments and tools for combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, as well as fisheries management approaches.
In addition to participating as delegates, SEAFDEC/TD contributed technical expertise through two expert presentations. Ms. Thanyalak Suasi delivered a presentation on Regional Efforts by SEAFDEC in Advancing Ecosystem-based Fisheries Management in Southeast Asia, while Mr. Kongpathai Saraphaivanich shared Regional Perspective on Market and Trade-related Measures to Prevent IUU Fishing.
Throughout the Academy, SEAFDEC/TD representatives actively engaged in learning sessions, case studies, group discussions, and interactive exercises. Their participation reflected SEAFDEC/TD’s continued commitment to supporting regional capacity building, strengthening fisheries governance, and promoting cooperation among Southeast Asian countries to address IUU fishing and advance sustainable fisheries management in the region.
