Introduction of the Thailand-Japan Collaborative Project on Enhancing Food Security and Promoting Sustainable Fisheries through Digital Transformation

On 10 August 2026, a delegation from Kagoshima University and ZIFISH Inc., Japan, visited Thailand as part of the Thailand–Japan Collaborative Project on Enhancing Food Security and Promoting Sustainable Fisheries through Digital Transformation. The visit began with an observation tour of Samut Sakhon Fishing Port, where the delegation observed fish unloading operations, followed by a visit to Talay Thai Market to gain insights into fish handling and marketing activities. The field visit provided an opportunity to understand practical aspects of Thailand’s fisheries value chain and identify opportunities for applying digital technologies to support more efficient and sustainable fisheries operations.

In the afternoon, a project meeting was held at the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center/Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), featuring an introduction to the Thailand–Japan collaborative project and a demonstration of the ZIFISH system, followed by discussions and a question-and-answer session. Presented by Dr. EBATA Keigo from Kagoshima University and ZIFISH Inc., the project seeks to integrate scientific knowledge, digital innovation, and business solutions to advance food security and sustainable fisheries through smart technologies and AI-driven applications. The meeting brought together partners and interested participants to explore practical applications of digital transformation for the future of sustainable fisheries.
