M.V. SEAFDEC 2 Launches Joint Fisheries Resources Survey in Brunei Darussalam Waters

The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries (DOF), Brunei Darussalam, is conducting a joint mission titled “Fisheries Resources Survey in Brunei Darussalam Waters by M.V. SEAFDEC 2” from 1 September to 17 October 2026. This initiative aims to assess the health of marine fisheries resources and environment while enhancing the research capabilities of both SEAFDEC/TD and Department of Fisheries (DOF), Brunei Darussalam personnel.

Spanning 24 survey stations, the mission focuses on evaluating marine ecosystem health and testing alternative fishing techniques—including drift gillnets, bottom vertical longlines, and squid jigging—to assess the feasibility of introducing these gears to local waters.

Additionally, the team is utilizing modern hydroacoustic technology, specifically the SIMRAD EK80, to support precise resource assessment and sustainable fisheries management.
