Key Stakeholder Engagement Workshop to Develop the Fisheries Management Plan in Bangsaphan District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province

The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, Training Department (SEAFDEC/TD), in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries (DOF) Thailand, organized the Key Stakeholder Engagement Workshop to Develop the Fisheries Management Plan (FMP) in Bangsaphan District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, from 18 to 19 November 2025. The activity was conducted under the project “Improving Fishers’ Livelihood and Fisheries Co-Management in Inland and Coastal Small-Scale Fisheries,” supported by the Japanese Trust Fund. The workshop aimed to strengthen participatory fisheries management by bringing together local stakeholders, community representatives, and government agencies to jointly draft an FMP guided by the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM). The workshop served as a platform for capacity building, enhancing participants’ understanding of sustainable fisheries management. Participants were introduced to the key concepts and principles of EAFM and applied these approaches in identifying and prioritizing issues, setting objectives, formulating management actions aligned with ecological well-being, human well-being, and good governance considerations, and drafting elements of the Fisheries Management Plan for the Bangsaphan pilot site.

A total of 31 participants attended the workshop, including representatives of local fishing communities, local government officials from the Department of Fisheries and the National Park authorities, and private sector partners such as Sahaviriya Steel Industries. The workshop also ensured inclusive participation, with 8 women and 23 men actively contributing to discussions and planning processes. The workshop successfully strengthened collaboration among key stakeholders and marked an important step toward developing a locally driven Fisheries Management Plan for Bangsaphan District.
